Ingredients for chocolate marble cake
  • Unsalted butter 120 g
  • Pinch of salt
  • Icing sugar 180 g
  • Eggs 2
  • All purpose flour 150g
  • Baking powder 1/2 tsp
  • Milk 40 g
  • Cocoa powder, sifted 9 g

  • Simple chocolate marble pound cake is always welcomed, rich with butter this loaf is great for both breakfast or afternoon tea. This recipe use icing sugar instead of granulated sugar, it makes the texture of the cake finer with subtle sweetness. By mixing one part of the batter with the cocoa and milk, you can make chocolate batter part with no time. When spoon it back into the main bowl, don’t mix it together. Because when putting the batter into the prepared pan, you can spoon both batter (plain and chocolate) at the same time, then use the bamboo stick to make the effect, this way you will get more beautiful marble cake.


  • Preheat an oven to 180C Line 21.5 x7.5 cm loaf pan with baking paper. Sift the flour and baking powder together.

  • Beat the butter with pinch of salt until softened. Add the icing sugar and beat until combine. Beat the egg together, then pour into the bowl and beat to combine.

  • Pour the sifted flour into the bowl.

  • Put 130g of batter into a bowl and mix with milk and sifted cocoa powder.

  • Spoon the cocoa batter back into the main bowl, don’t let them mix together.

  • Put the batter into prepared loaf pan.

  • Use bamboo stick to make marble effect. Put in the oven and reduce the temperature to 170C. Bake for 50-55 minutes or until toothpick insert into the centre, comes out with few crumbs.

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
